Africa’s premium podcast magazine, The Podcast Sessions, celebrates its second anniversary with the release of its July/August 2022 issue. On the cover are Andy Maqondwana and Zweli Mbhele, co-hosts of Netflix’s Never Late | African Time podcast – arguably one of the biggest podcast productions on the continent.
The cover story provides exclusive insight into the backstory, production, and overall experience of making this monumental podcast. And as you might know, when it comes to Netflix, there’s no such thing as too much.
“You get to set and there are about 45 people and you’re like, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Like it’s quite a massive production, from camera people, make-up artists, and runners,” says Andy in the cover feature.
This anniversary issue is packed with incredible content, from how to “Overcome Impostor Syndrome and Launch Your Podcast”, to taking a deep dive into an overview of “Global Podcast Research” and even getting into some tech comparing XLR and USB microphones. Two recurring features include the podcaster profile “10 Questions with” as well as “What We’re Listening To”, which provides a list of top pan-African and international podcasts.
Founder and editor Rutendo Nyamuda says since the magazine’s launch in 2020, it has grown significantly, featuring podcast stories from north, south, east and west Africa.
“I’m so excited about the progress we’ve made in the last few years. We used to have to dig deep to find podcast news stories and now we have podcasters and industry leaders approaching us with their news and press releases. We’re committed to telling the stories and successes of the African podcast industry,” she says.
Earlier this year, The Podcast Sessions launched its official website. The platform provides news content from around the continent as well as educational articles for podcasters.
