Outstanding podcasts were among the categories celebrated at this past weekend’s prestigious 56th NAACP Image Awards. Founded in 1967 by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the awards honor outstanding performances and contributions by African Americans and people of color in the entertainment industry.
Categories included motion picture, literature, television and streaming, and of course, podcasting. In case you missed it, here’s this year’s outstanding podcast winners:
- Outstanding Podcast – News and Information
Native Land Pod co-hosted by Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross and Andrew Gillum
- Outstanding Podcast – Society and Culture
Club Shay Shay hosted by Shannon Sharpe
- Outstanding Podcast – Limited Series / Short Form
Stranded starring Taraji P. Henson and Tracee Ellis Ross
- Outstanding Podcast – Lifestyle / Self-Help
We Don’t Always Agree co-hosted by Ryan Michelle Bathe and Sterling K. Brown
- Outstanding Podcast – Arts, Sports and Culture
Two Funny Mamas by Sherri Shepherd and Kym Whitley
Another notable win from the evening was Keke Palmer, who took home the Entertainer of the Year award. Keke is also – unsurprisingly – the host of her own podcast, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, but her impact reaches far beyond her many entertainment hats. As the award acknowledged, she’s also become a significant presence in the media for her advocacy on social issues, including mental health, empowerment, and racial justice. Winning the Entertainer of the Year award at the 56th NAACP Image Awards recognizes not only her talent but also her ability to connect with audiences and contribute meaningfully to the cultural landscape.
Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of this year’s NAACP Image Awards! You can find the full list of nominees here.
