This Week in Podcasting – Podcast News 28 February

Welcome to This Week in Podcasting, where we recap some of the latest updates and news from the world of podcasting. From award nominations and winners, to a surprising new report on the top podcast platform – let’s get into it!

  1. NAACP Image Awards winners announced

Outstanding podcasts were among the categories celebrated at this past weekend’s prestigious 56th NAACP Image Awards. Apart from the outstanding podcast winners – you can find our recent post on it here –  another notable win from the evening was Keke Palmer, who took home the Entertainer of the Year award. Keke is also – unsurprisingly – the host of her own podcast, with her impact reaching far beyond her many entertainment hats.

  1. British Podcast Awards are open

Dubbed the biggest party in British Podcasting, the British Podcast Awards are now open for entries. The awards are all about recognising and celebrating excellence, talent, passion and originality in British Podcasting, and the awards evening in October 2025 is set to be a key event in our calendars. Find out more about last year’s visitors, this year’s categories, and more, in our latest post here.

  1. Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards are open

Nominations for the 4th Annual Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards (YOBA) are also now open. Since 2022, YOBA has recognized the outstanding achievements of young entrepreneurs who are not only driving Africa’s economic growth but also enhancing its global reputation. The awards celebrate youth-owned brands across 16 exciting categories, from Agriculture and Apparel to Creative & Arts and Media – including creators making waves in the world of podcasting.

You can submit your nominations between now and 04 April 2025, or catch last year’s inspiring award winners here.

  1. YouTube named the top podcasting platform in the US

That’s right – this week Bloomberg reported that YouTube is now the leading platform for podcast consumption, with over one billion people watching and listening to podcasts every month. Surpassing platforms like Apple and Spotify, YouTube offers features like tagging content as podcasts and exploring monetization opportunities for creators, making it a platform that podcast creators can’t ignore.

  1. Vox Media Podcast Stage at SXSW 2025 announced

Next month, Vox Media will be hosting a diverse lineup of engaging podcast sessions at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2025, featuring notable personalities and thought leaders. The Podcast Stage includes thought-provoking discussions with influential guests like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Chelsea Handler, and Brené Brown. Taking place from 08 – 10 March 2025 in Austin, Texas, these sessions will cover a wide range of topics, from politics and tech to sports and wellness, offering a unique opportunity for SXSW attendees to engage in what promises to be a notable event of the week-long festival.
