#1: Ambies Full list of Winners

The Ambies, one of the most prestigious podcast awards, by The Podcast Academy, announced the winners for 2023. “Chameleon: Wild Boys” won podcast of the year. The winners’ list includes some of the best podcasts in different categories, including fiction, non-fiction, and comedy. You can find the full list of winners on their website.

#2 First African Podcast Nominated for a Podcast Academy Award

“I Will Not Grow Old Here” by The Radio Workshop made history as the first African podcast to be nominated for The Ambies. The team of Mike Rahfaldt, Lesedi Mogoatlhe, Dhashen Moodley, and Mary-Ann Nobele were nominated for Best Documentary and attended the award ceremony in Las Vegas, US. Although they did not win, this nomination is a monumental accomplishment for African podcasting. 

#3 African Narrative Podcasts for Your Listening Pleasure

In the latest issue of “The Continent,” Josephine Karianjahi, co-founder of Africa Podfest, shared her perspectives on the nomination for “I Will Not Grow Old Here”; the growing African podcast scenes as well as her podcast recommendations. The list includes “I Will Not Grow Old Here” (South Africa), “Nipe Story” (Kenya), “Inside Wants Out” (South Africa), and “Adventures From the Bedrooms of African Women” (Ghana). These podcasts cover a wide range of topics and provide a unique perspective on African experiences.

#4 The Infinite Dial 2023

Last week, Edison Research released the 25th anniversary of The Infinite Dial, one of the most extensive and longest-running research on podcasting that focuses on the US market. The report provides valuable insights into the podcasting trends in the US market.

For those looking for something closer to home in 2022 The Infinite Dial released an issue focusing on the South African market. In addition, last year Africa Podfest and Baraza Media Lab released the “Discovery Tour, Data Edition” which examines the state and potential of African podcasting. Download it for free here.
