1. The Black Podcasting Awards Are Back
The Black Podcasting Awards are back, and applications are now open! If you are a black podcaster or are part of a panel of hosts that are mostly black with an English podcast consisting of a minimum of 6 episodes and a public RSS feed, then this is an amazing opportunity for you.
Applications are to be submitted on the Black Podcasting Awards website and close on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024 (now extended to August 21st).
2. SA Podcast and Music festival is Happening
Podcasters have an amazing opportunity to learn more about the world of podcasting from some of the best podcasters in South Africa.
The SA Podcast and Music festival is taking place on the 14th and 15th of June 2024 and the lineup, consisting of Ursula Mariani, DJ Sbu and Penuel The Black Pen (to name a few) is one to not be missed!

3. Namibia Media Trust hosts NXT Podcast Bootcamp and Fellowship
Podcasters living in Africa, here is an amazing opportunity to learn and grow as a podcaster!
The Namibia Media Trust is back with its 3rd NXT Podcast Bootcamp and Fellowship taking place on the 15-19 July, 2024, in Windhoek, Namibia. Requirements:
- You must be at least 21 years old and have a passport (if from outside Namibia) and be able to travel to Windhoek.
- You must be based in Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
- You must commit to ethical journalism and its guidelines (such as the Code of Ethics of the Editor’s Forum of Namibia or the core principles of the Ethical Journalism Network.
Applications close on the 20th of June, and application forms are available.
4. Africa Beyond 4IR brings Africa Digital Youth Festival to SA
Africa Beyond 4IR is bringing the Africa Digital Youth Festival for all the Youth who want a better understanding of the digital world and how to optimise it in your favour.
Whether you’re a Youtuber, a podcaster, or want to start your own company in the digital space, the Digital Youth Festival is a great way to gain insight! The festival will be taking place on the 26th & 27th of June, 2024 at the Sammy Marks Council Chambers in Pretoria.

5. Spotify Updates Podcasters’ Terms of Use
Spotify for Podcasters is about to undergo an upgrade when it comes to its terms of use and these changes are effective from the 1st of July, 2024.
Although no major changes have been made, there are a few minor changes that podcasters will need to take note of if you upload your podcast onto Spotify. Some of these changes include having to clearly state when there is any paid promotion in your podcast episodes and Spotify reserving the right to charge you a certain fee for any earnings made under their monetization programme.
