Welcome to This Week in Podcasting, where we recap some of the latest updates and news from the world of podcasting. From Alix Earle relaunching her podcast, to big wins in the South African podcasting scene – let’s get into it!
1. Alix Earle Relaunches Hot Mess as a “Vlogcast”
This week Influencer Alix Earle announced that she is breathing new life into her podcast Hot Mess, as it returns in a hybrid format—part podcast, part video vlog—on YouTube and Spotify. This shift away from traditional audio follows her split from Alex Cooper’s Unwell Network, and the growing trend towards video podcasts (see point 3 for more on this!)
2. Reese’s Book Club Launches Bookmarked Podcast
Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club just debuted its very own podcast, Bookmarked by Reese’s Book Club. Hosted by journalist and TV host Danielle Robay, and co-produced by iHeartMedia, it launched its first episode this week, with weekly episodes exploring deeper layers of popular reads lined up for its listeners.
3. Video Podcasting Gains Major Traction in the U.S.
New data shows that video podcasts are becoming a dominant format, with YouTube now attracting over a billion podcast listeners monthly. The surge is creating new job opportunities in Hollywood, as producers and creators scramble to meet the growing demand for visual-first content – read more about it here!
4. Dan Corder’s Podcast get licensed by eNCA
The Corder Report made just history in South Africa – the video podcast by Dan Corder has just been licensed for distribution by eNCA, marking the first time a major South African news broadcaster has picked up a podcast. Originally launched on YouTube and audio platforms, this move signals a powerful step toward mainstream recognition for independent creators in the country.
